Door-to-door car service

Marnhull Village Care (MVC) offer a door-to-door car service provided by volunteer drivers. The service is for people in the parish who cannot arrange their own transport for essential trips; typically for hospital, doctor’s or dental appointments. Passengers cover our drivers costs direct, at a rate based on mileage and approved by HMRC. The rate we charge is for a return trip; ie, transport to the appointment and back home again. There is no charge made for waiting time. Example total mileage charges are: Sturminster£4 Stalbridge£4 Gillingham £7 Shaftesbury£7.50 Blandford£13 Yeovil £15 Tisbury £15 Dorchester£20 Poole £25 Salisbury £30 Bournemouth£35 Taunton £40 We will need the following information from you: •the passenger’s name •contact phone number •the pick-up address •the destination •date & time of the appointment •if possible, an idea of how long the appointment will take •any special requests; for example, if you use a wheelchair, or if you would like a friend to accompany you. The information above is needed to arrange the lift. We do NOT need to know what your appointment is for, and will not ask for any other personal data. If you have a Blue Badge, please bring it with you to enable the driver to use a disabled parking bay. If you have a mobile phone, please bring that too. It can be used to notify your driver that you are ready to be taken home after your appointment. Call 07777 559076 to request a driver.

Road Contacts

Volunteers who welcome newcomers to the village and provide a network of contacts throughout Marnhull. If you have not met your Road Contact yet, contact the MVC number for details. Can YOU help - roads without Road contacts:- Cox Hill Mowes Lane Salisbury Street Common Lane Moorside Outer Farms Butts Close Burton Street( Ham Lane to Love Lane/Old Exchange) Burton Street (Mill Lane to BVI) Musbury Close Musbury Lane Burgess Close Woodlands Mead Corner Close Phillips Road. The primary role of a Road Contact is to welcome newcomers into the street where they live. This might be the first person to speak to them once they have surfaced above packing cases! The Road Contact not only gives the newcomer a warm feeling of being welcomed into the village, but also provide a point of contact if they should need information or support on local services.

Fun Together

Supporting Agencies

Many things that affect our health cannot be treated by doctors or medicine alone, like loneliness, isolation or stress due to problems with debt or housing. Social prescribing connects people to activities, groups and services in their community to improve their health and wellbeing. It is for all ages and works particularly well for people who: - have 1 or more long term health conditions need support with low level mental health conditions - are lonely or isolated - are grieving If you think social prescribing would help you, check your GP practice website or ask at your surgery. Click on the Signposting List button above for a list of organisations offering help and advice.
